About Liz Druhan

One of the things I have learned over the years is that homes rarely need as much as we think they do. More often, they need a clearer sense of direction.

People often come to me thinking they need help choosing colours, furniture or finishes. While those decisions are important, they are rarely where a project begins. The first step is understanding the home itself — what is working, what feels unresolved, and where the greatest opportunities lie.

I grew up in California before settling in Ireland more than twenty years ago. My appreciation for quality, craftsmanship and timeless design began early, with my parents’ influence, along with the belief that the most successful homes evolve through thoughtful decisions made over time.

Before establishing South Hill Studio, I spent over two decades leading global client relationships and projects in Finance. In addition, being PRINCE2 qualified has helped shape how I organise and approach projects. It may seem an unusual route, but it echoes what I enjoy- navigating complex projects and priorities while helping people make significant decisions with confidence.

I qualified as an interior designer in 2007 and later founded South Hill Studio to create thoughtful, enduring homes that feel connected to their architecture, setting and the people who live in them.

I don't believe in imposing a signature style but you will see a respect for heritage and craft throughout my designs. My role is to understand the whole picture, establish a clear direction and create homes that feel considered, comfortable and entirely at ease with themselves.

The Psychology of Home

You know that unsettled feeling of looking at an unfinished room.

The space doesn’t feel right, but you can’t quite work out why. You find yourself caught in a spiral of decisions, beautiful images, colour options and second guesses. You may have spent months looking at the same piece of furniture, unable to pull the trigger. Or you may have tried to make sensible compromises, using cheaper options, only to find that the room still isn’t coming together.

I understand this feeling. I have experienced it in my own home, and I see it time and again with clients.

Because the real issue is not just the sofa. It’s not the paint colour. And while AI images can be useful, they only show you what you want to see or what you tell it- not what is truly, fantastically, creatively possible, for You.

Home is more than a collection of things. It is not about impressing other people, chasing a perfect image, or recreating something you saw online. Home is living, breathing and evolving. It should hold who you are, how you move through the day, what you need to feel steady, and what makes you feel most yourself.

That is where the real design work begins.

When we stop forcing a room to look right and start asking why it feels unsettled, something shifts. We answer questions about ourselves that we didn’t know needed attention. Decisions become clearer, the room begins to take shape with more honesty and our lives start to shift.

Good design in our homes can become transformative. It becomes where you can exhale. A place that reflects who you are, not who you think you should be. A place for you to be fully yourself, when no one is looking.
