It’s that time of year- Christmas.

The list of to-do items keeps growing and once it starts it can begin to feel rushed. Instead, this year I’m making a conscious effort to take a step back and think about why I have certain traditions and routines at this time of year. I’m not good at slowing down.

By pausing the rush and making personal decisions about what matters most, I’m hoping that I will see where the real priorities are. And it might mean that somethings come to an end - do my sugar-fuelled children really need another Selection Box? How much are the stocking fillers really costing me? This will give room for more quiet moments, relishing time spent with loved ones and watching the magic.

I want to say this is an “age” thing, where I’ve grown up but what is the point in Christmas if you don’t get to slow down, appreciate the happy moments and realise that this is not a competition? There isn’t an award for best parent or happiest child. Thinking back to my own childhood, I remember the times, the dancing, the laughter, the lights.

I started my company because I saw what was happening in Interior Design- how it is becoming about showing off. There is an element of trying to impress people or make friends jealous. Is that what Christmas is becoming?

May you find joy and, ultimately, peace this Christmas.
