The January Perspective: Designing with Intention

January is often framed as a month of frantic "newness"—new goals, new habits, new starts. But in the world of home design, I’ve found that the best changes rarely happen at a sprint. Instead, I like to use this month for a "slow lap" of the house—a time to notice the corners that need love and the spaces that simply need a bit more room to breathe.

If you are looking at your home this month and feeling the itch for change, my advice is to start with a wish, not a to-do list. Instead of rushing into a renovation, ask yourself:

  • Where does the morning light hit? Sometimes a "dark room" just needs a better layout to catch the Irish winter sun.

  • What are the true pain points? Is it the lack of storage, or is it that the current flow of the room doesn't match how your family actually moves?

  • What is my "Greatest Wish" for this space? If you could change just one thing to make your daily life easier—not more beautiful, but easier—what would it be?

Real design is a journey of maturation. It’s about creating a space that balances openness with intimacy and evolves as you do.

A home isn't built in a day, and the best ones are those that are allowed to grow slowly. Xx Liz
